Colored Pencil Waterfall by Katy Schifferer

Title:

“Waterfall”

Medium:

Prismacolor colored pencils on blue pastel paper.

Paper size:

9″ x 12 ”

Process & Inspiration:

Nothing in particular inspired this drawing; I simply wanted to play around with my colored pencils.

I did experiment with techniques, however.  I chose to use pastel paper because I liked the shade of blue that it was and I thought it would create a good base for the drawing, especially to help contrast the white in the water. The rough texture of the paper meant in order to fill it in with color, however, I had to layer the colored pencil quite a lot—which I think was beneficial.  Layering lighter colors on top of darker colors actually causes the colors to blend, which I used quite a bit with drawing the water.
